This is a huge day in fashion, entertainment and film, starting with the Oscars awards show and red carpet before the real main event, the Vanity Fair After Party. This event has been around for 30 years and has slowly become one of the most anticipated events in pop culture. The red carpet at this party is undeniably one of the biggest red carpets - making the night a huge opportunity for designers, stylists and celebrities to turn out an iconic moment - and is personally my second favourite fashion event of the year, (after the Met Gala). It has become the 'it spot' for huge fashion moments over the years, so I am beyond excited to see every single guest and what they are wearing, and find out if anything we see can live up to Hunter Schafer in that single feather top from Ann Demeulemeester last year.
As always we have three lists: Best Dressed, The Middle Ground, and Worst Dressed. Within these categories, the looks are in no particular order, so just scroll to your hearts content and enjoy. Also, my opinions are just that: opinions. So if you disagree, if you agree, if I missed someone or you have any thoughts, let me know through socials or by leaving a comment - I could talk about this stuff all day. Finally, we will end with our usual Top 3 and Worst 3 of the night before rounding off this awards season for good (my god, has it been a long one). So, without further ado, let's talk about the best looks of the night...
Best dressed
1/26
Margot Robbie in vintage Mugler
What a way to start the night: the death of the Barbie era - as well as the end of that horrific Chanel era - which has left space for a movement into a new era of Margot's style. I hope it involves more vintage pieces because this look is fabulous, almost iconic, but it just doesn't quite live up to the original (even though it's pretty damn close). The shape of the corset is magical and it is embroidered all over with crystals and beaded fringe that look like a piece of art. A little detail I love is that subtle cluster of sequins and crystals that create a bellybutton. The placement of the gorgeous silk cape is bringing the attention into the centre and keeps your eyes on the intricate corset. Unfortunately, we still haven't got the hair and glam team up to scratch, which is really taking me out of the fantasy. but this is a great new dawn for Margot.
2/26
Emma Chamberlain in custom Thom Browne and Cartier
Emma is immediately my favourite of tonight. She has worked a few times with Thom Browne but this might be the best look yet, with it being fully custom for her. This was styled alongside Jared Ellner, her usual stylist - full breakdown of Emma X Jared coming in two weeks, as the duo are truly changing the game of celebrity styling and red carpet fashion - so well that I could dedicate an entire post to this look alone. That cummerbund style corset is SICKENING, how on earth are we creating that shape in this piece, without any gathering or scrunching??! I am mind blown at Thom Browne's insane tailoring, but it should be expected from the brand at this point; the shape of that skirt is so simple yet so new, it feel almost like a mermaid style but not quite. I'm not sure how this is possible but I am also obsessed with a white shirt??? The strong collar, the open buttons - and the girls are sitting INCREDIBLY - the length of the sleeves are all perfect and I kind of like the way the sleeve (in line with pleated cummerbund) is creased - I assume it wasn't intentional in this case but I love it. Don't let me forget that mini briefcase bag (that definitely has nothing in it haha) which is such an on theme accessory from Thom Browne that finishes off the overall look to perfection. This moment has all the formal, tailored and school-boy energy of Thom Browne, but also a feminine, powerful and sexy feel that is something I haven't felt from him until now.
3/26
Sofia Vergara in Oscar De La Renta
If you saw my Critics Choice Awards post you would have seen Aja Naomi King in this exact dress from Oscar De La Renta, just in candy pink, and although this is much more expected and basic in black, I somehow love it even more. I adore the cut of the skirt, which nips in above the knee to create an almost mermaid-style effect, the ruching/gathering on the bodice (whether intentional or not) brings more depth and reality to the look which I love, the cut-out at the naval and the strapless scoop-esque neckline take this look from girly to cunty. There is something about the balance of a sexy, sultry black look with the girly trend of bows that feels fresh and intriguing.
4/26
Kim Kardashian in Balenciaga
There isn't too much going on here so it's hard to look past the wrinkles but other than some slight fit issues - seen by the creasing and gathering especially at the sides of the bust and above the hips - this look is super clean and slick. Does it look like a napkin? Well yes, but if you ignore that it's a pretty cool shape. Nothing is trying to distract from the focal point of the dress which is that asymmetrical point that extends dramatically from the strapless neckline and up/away from the body.
5/26
Michelle Yeoh in Balenciaga
I changed my mind, move over Kim, this is the Balenciaga I want to see. I adore a look that centres around and accentuates the collarbones, there is something so timeless, elegant and feminine about this feature that feels very sensual but also delicate and refined. The piece itself looks almost like a well-tailored overcoat but is actually a black velvet gown with long sleeves, a floor-hitting skirt that extends into a slight train, a pointed, plunging neckline and an almost structural, extended moment where the fabric around the shoulders and back of the dress floats above the natural line of the body. It feels like she is being wrapped in the black fabric like a duvet but looks so powerful and majestic. That golden feather brooch feels necessary to the overall look and it's stunning.
6/26
Vanessa Hudgens in Schiaparelli
If somehow you missed the baby-bump at the Oscars, Vanessa is showing it off tonight with a totally sheer look from Schiaparelli. Other than the black underwear and bra this seems to be one piece of sheer fabric fitted rather loosely as a flowy column dress, with a separate piece of the same fabric draped around the back and the front of the arms - connecting at the bust - to fall to the ankles as a shawl/cape. The earrings fit the vibe perfectly and with the gorgeous styling of the hair and glam, she looks ethereal.
7/26
Olivia Wilde in Carolina Herrera
This piece is so quiet and simple but I love it. In this lighting it doesn't show up well but this black gown, with it's almost cut-out plunging neckline, has dozens of gathers and pleats of the fabric horizontally all down the dress, symmetrically across those two sides of the bodice. It's the perfect example to other celebs of the hair and glam being really easy, even hair down, but still looking put together and elegant.
8/26
Alessandra Ambrosio in Alexandre Vauthier
I love that this is a full coverage look but doesn't swamp her or wear her, it still looks very feminine and even sexy? It is a column dress in white silk that has oversized, relaxed fabric at the shoulders that acts both as sleeves and a cape, as well as a piece that wraps around the neck, ties and falls gracefully down the body. Perhaps this entire look actually consists of two pieces, one being the gown and the other being the cape with really long ends that becomes the necktie. I love the simplicity and that this is a silhouette we haven't seen much before.
9/26
Emily Ratajkowski in Jacquemus
To me, this look feels reminiscent of that Viktor & Rolf SS23 Couture show which saw Barbie-esque dresses that were literally floating or detached from the models, on different angles. The body of this gown is completely backless and strapless, with the front of the body being very structured - almost architectural - which allows it to float off of the body, leaving the bust and ribs slightly exposed. The fit is perfect, the skirt particularly is fitted so well, in a way that most other gowns aren't at the legs. There is a matching train in the same white, except it is sheer, attached to the side of the floating bodice piece and wraps behind the body, which doesn't take away from the main gown. It creates a further ethereal look, like the piece is floating.
10/26
Irina Shayk in Dolce and Gabbana
This is an archival look from Spring/Summer 92, which is layered, comprising of multiple different vibes. We have a very ballerina style dress with this fabulous, structured yet light tutu, we also have a sheer component with the transparent shirt, which adds more coverage but feels more sensual. The sexiness doesn't stop there, we have thigh high, black stockings and full-arm length gloves. With so much coverage it is impressive that it still feels young and playful, not to mention that red lip that gives me French femme fatale.
11/26
Kelly Rowland in Nina Ricci
All I will say is lose the fishnets and this is perfect (would be next in my top 3 if I had to keep going). It is essentially a little black dress - with a strapless, scooped, plunging neckline - but it comes across almost as a ballgown with the genius additions of the pleated, structured white fabric, that falls to the floor as a skirt, the placement of the which is below rather than on the waist, allowing the body to stand out - looking elongated - not crowding the look too much. The white gloves are so classy (even though the fit is off) and the little black bows attached at the upper arm are so cute and very on-trend, also balancing out the overall black and white of the look.
12/26
Jodie Turner-Smith in Gucci
This is about as simple as the simple dress gets, but Jodie's figure carries it and makes it a whole look. The sky-high slit of the dress cuts the leg beautifully but it does look a little cheap. As does the fit of the entire piece, which could have been more figure hugging, but if this ever-so-slightly baggy fit was intentional, I like it. Sometimes a sexy, slinky, thrown-on, casual fit is nice. I adore a plunging neckline and Jodie looks amazing in it, you can see her abs on fire, her arms are so toned and her face looks so sculpted. (Side-note: I need whatever body shimmer/product she is using).
13/26
Rosé in Saint Laurent
Here is another simple look, that is once again so beautiful. Rosé is a global ambassador for YSL so I knew she would be wearing a piece like this - although, as a firm favourite celeb of the house, I think they could have pulled something a little more jaw-dropping for her, perhaps something from the recent collection (one of those asymmetrically pleated dresses made entirely from tights fabric) - so I am slightly underwhelmed. Perhaps it's a little dull but I do love a basic look sometimes and Rosé always looks stunning regardless. This gown is in a russet colour silk crepe fabric which gives a lovely pebbled/crinkled effect to an otherwise blank look. It's a low sitting, strapless gown with a train and - you cant see here but there is - a back cut out with a tie waist. She looks amazing but there is definitely a slight fit issue, and as it's so simple, and it's from Saint Laurent, it should be better.
14/26
Kendall Jenner in Maison Margiela
This look is so stunning but it doesn't hit the same spot as the runway version did - of course I'm talking about the Maison Margiela Artisanal 2024 collection - and as always it seems like Kendall is allergic to serving or even committing to a look. I truly wish Kendall would at least try with hair and makeup, and maybe give us an on theme pose? Regardless, this look is a masterpiece, particularly the exquisite corset which makes entire shape of this look sickening. There is a little nod to the 'bush wigs' or 'Merkins' that were around in the Renaissance era, but created from pleated fabric rather than an actual wig - something Galliano used in the recent collection which motivated a huge conversation on social media. I do absolutely love that Margiela is pushing out these couture looks from the recent season and hope that other celebrities - who actually give us the fantasy *cough cough, Zendaya* - get a chance to wear these pieces.
15/26
Kylie Jenner in Ludovic De Saint Sernan
This look from Ludovic De Saint Sernin - who just left Ann Demeulemeester after one season - is entirely chainmail and yet fits exquisitely, something that even Versace find hard to do after decades of experience, demonstrating the undeniable vision and creative abilities of Sernan and his team. Ludovic is creating provocative pieces that are unlike anything else on the market. The white tree/floral motif created within the chainmail is a masterclass of garment creation. Finally, the styling is fully allowing us to feel the fantasy, so Kylie, please have a word with Kendall XOXO
16/26
Lily Aldridge in Prada
Simple, chic and feminine. Although Prada is really boring me recently, this look demonstrates that they can put together a clean, well-crafted even without much going on. The floating feathers are so elegant and ethereal, clustered so naturally and organically but not overwhelming. The full black shoulder-less look brings all the attention to the collarbone and shoulders which feels refined and sophisticated behind the mysterious mask of those feathers. I'm slightly annoyed that this has been done on such a popular carpet, because I have been working with almost this exact style of 'black feathers coming out of the bust of black garments' for over a year, so it feels frustrating to see it done by someone else, but also I can't complain too much because it's so beautiful.
17/26
Hunter Schafer in Bottega Veneta
After last year's historic moment in Ann Demeulemeester, I was so intrigued to see what she would wear today, but I think Hunter and Dara (her stylist, who is also Fashion Director for Interview Magazine) decided to do something more simple and expected this year as you can't give a gag-worthy moment every single time. Regardless, it is still quite the look, a strapless, black Bottega piece with pockets which is refined and elegant, making Hunter look like a 60s Hollywood actress. This look also came with a coat but she took it off before the carpet which I'm so sad about.
18/26
Dara in Bottega Veneta
If you don't know Dara, get to know her immediately, she is a celebrity stylist, Fashion Director at Interview Magazine and all round icon. This look, like Hunter's, is also Bottega; it fits like a work of art, hugging the legs and waist in all the right places, making the legs look sooooo long. The continued print from the neck down to the floor makes Dara look like a Barbie doll and that little asymmetrical, off-the-shoulder detail is super slouchy and I love it.
19/26
Paris Hilton in Sabina Bilenko
Another immediate favourite of the night, this look consists of a nude leotard with double straps, one over the shoulder, one falls over the arms. Over the top is this completely transparent fabric which falls from the bust into a the most precise, immaculate train at the floor. The sheer fabric - which is essentially the actual dress - is adorned with hundreds of rhinestones, crystals and diamonds to create a glowing, shimmering masterpiece. The hem of the dress is also embellished in crystals and rhinestones as well as the gloves which also feature the same embellishment and continue the sheer element. As there is so much detail and intricacy in this piece, it is a miracle that not a single thing is even slightly off. Not only does Paris look incredibly expensive and elegant in this, you almost see water droplets running down the dress as crystals which give this goddess, angel, star-like fantasy. I truly cant get over how stunning this is.
20/26
Greta Lee in Loewe
This silk, slinky, slouchy slip gown is really elegant. The embroidered motifs around the neckline that carry down into the hem, which extend all down the back, leaving it fully exposed are just the subtle detail that makes the look complete. There has been a continued theme of Greta exposing her back in almost every look this season and it has been magical.
21/26
Gracie Abrams in Prada
The second Prada look of the night that is actually beautiful??!! What is going on Miuccia! This is an A-line gown in a slightly off pale-pink velvet, adorned with columns of pins, all of which are individual clusters made of gold and silver crystals. I don't think the neckline needs to be so low on this look but the rest of the silhouette makes up for it. The shoe works, but I would have loved to see something a little more Cinderella, a little more dainty.
22/26
Sydney Sweeney in vintage Marc Bouwer
I love that Sydney is switching it up and seems to be moving into a new era, with the hair, the look, the posing, she is clearly trying something new and it's working for me. Angelina Jolie actually wore this exact dress to the Oscars in 2004, yet this doesn't feel aged, it works now even just as well as it did then. The cream silk is just on the right edge of being feminine and elegant without looking bridal; Sydney is also carrying the matching train, draped around like a shawl, which feels incredibly simple and nonchalant. I am honestly just obsessed with the fuck ass bob.
23/26
Ncuti Gatwa in Cameron Hancock
This is thrown in here because I love a guests wearing a small designer at a big event. The metal chest piece is of course sculpted specifically to Ncuti's torso so it fits well, which makes him look incredibly toned and muscular, yet somehow it doesn't appear to be cutting in to his body anywhere or restricting his natural movements so I think it's a success. It's a super minimal look, those loose black pants allow the sculpted piece to take centre stage.
24/26
Sabrina Carpenter in Tory Burch
I have a tough time with Tory Burch, sometimes the brand feels luxurious to an extent or at least relevant in the world of high fashion, then at others it feels like your typical high-street store... This look though fits into the first category. It took me a while to realise that this is actually two pieces, which was a slight disappointment as I think this would have been an incredible creation as one piece - although I imagine it would be very complicated to pull off. The top half is a bodysuit in a glossy crocodile-effect fabric and the skirt has an elasticated waist - ugh - and is a sheer black fabric, with several lines of sequins, that transition from black to nude as they travel down toward the floor. It's pretty quirky and unusual, which I am obsessed with, but something about the apparent quality is throwing me off.
25/26
Camila Mendes in Tamara Ralph
WOW WOW WOW !!!! An unexpected surprise from an ex Riverdale actress but I am not complaining. We saw Lily Collins at the BAFTA's in a similar dress, which I did adore but this one is something else! I absolutely love the current idea that Tamara Ralph is working on, from the most recent collection, with the use of metal hardware to create solid, structured floral motifs. We have seen this mostly along the neckline of gowns, but they also did a style with a metal floral corset which was a masterpiece. Here, I love the black velvet, as it contrasts and blends gorgeously with the golden metal, not to mention the mermaid style skirt, which is so grand and lets the upper body become its own moment, so your eyes aren't overwhelmed or taken away from the gold.
26/26
Jeremy Pope in Ferrari
I was today years old when I found out Ferrari had a clothing line and it is legitimately good. This set is made from a technical silk based fabric with an inserted thread - that is transparent and circular - which helps the fabric absorb colour, resulting in this terrific gradient from the brands 'Purosangue Black' to 'Rosso Dino' colours. The silk is shiny and glossy which reflects the light beautifully and the shape of the entire look, but particularly the pants, is incredible; I am so intrigued as to how those pants it is holding that squiggled, wavy flow.
Well damn, it was worth the wait. 26 'Best Dressed' attendees is the most we have ever had on our red carpet lists so it's fair to say that overall, the standard was high tonight and plenty of celebs brought their A game. Of course, being one of the most star-studded Hollywood events of the year, the guests and looks don't end there, so let's move down the list and take a look at tonights 'Middle Ground': a compilation of average, unmemorable or simply dull looks that weren't even bold enough to be bad.
Middle Ground
1/15
Demi Lovato in Sophie Couture
I feel that Demi is stuck in 2016, with the makeup, the shape of this gown and the hair. This is an off the shoulder, scoop-neck dress, fit to hug the body, covered in black sequins in two tones. Something about the chunky line of darker black sequins completely throws me off this look.
2/15
Donald Glover in Amiri
This look, especially on Donald, looks effortlessly cool, but I can't say I love it that much. I think the red tone of the suit is great, it matches the pinky-nude undershirt and is balanced out by the black detailing from the lapels, belt, buttons and base of the shoes. I think the white crotchet vest is a little confusing and not exactly a logical clash. Although, I do enjoy seeing men do tailoring in a way that's not groundbreaking, but is at least different.
3/15
Emily Blunt in Dolce and Gabbana
Dolce and Gabbana - controversy aside - definitely know how to make a great dress, yet I feel that they always reach that 90% moment with each look (at least the 'good' ones) and never quite have the jaw-dropping moments. This is so pretty on Emily, who looks happy and comfortable, and I really do love the gown. Due to the bust it feels nightgown-esque, yet the lacy, flowy skirt makes it feel like a spring frock she could run around an orchard in. I honestly do love the colour on her currently tanned tone.
4/15
Sandra Oh in Naeem Khan
In theory I love this dress, just not in the way it has been executed. I would have loved to see it fully in black or in gold, but something about the two tones - that don't ombre into one another, instead they are choppy and merge like a city skyline (not a good thing) - ruins it for me. I do love the metallic paillettes that begin above the knee and transition perfectly into much larger disks.
5/15
Kris Jenner in Oscar De La Renta
I can only assume that this isn't intended to be a skin-tone match to create a De La Renta illusion dress because this is very obviously just beige. I am a fan of the unique, asymmetrical embroidery in silver that adorns the upper half of the gown but I lose interest as soon as my eyes meet that fringe made up of gold and silver (both at the same time) rods; they overwhelm the entire look and bring a weird focus to the silver embellishments that suddenly look much cheaper.
6/15
Charles Melton in Ferregamo
An attractive man in a good - not great - suit? How revolutionary.
7/15
Vera Wang in Vera Wang
The more I look at this, the more I am becoming obsessed with it. The way that white silk skirt sits and flows so organically is magical, especially with such a high waist. I think my confusion comes with the sleeveless jacket, I can't quite figure out yet if it makes sense to have the two garments together, but on its own - a narrow, fitted jacket with refined 'cargo' pockets - I think it's pretty interesting. I love Vera and her designs so much, I assume in a week this will find its way onto the best dressed list.
8/15
Maude Apatow in Richard Quinn
There is nothing inherently wrong with this look, it just feels unfinished to me. On the runway, Richard Quinn styled this gown with shiny black gloves and opaque black tights, which completed the look in a way that Maude's version doesn't. The gown itself is great, I love the neckline, the bow is cute and the embroidered fabric of the gown is stunning.
9/15
Meghann Fahy in Ralph Lauren
I love Meghann Fahy as a Ralph Lauren woman, she definitely represents what the brand stands for today for me. This is lovely, a spaghetti halter-neck style dress with a low cut, that is synched in at the waist with a thick waistband. The fit is immaculate, the entire look is stunning, but the second I look away, I forget that it exists, hence its position on this list.
10/15
Ariana Greenblatt in custom Vera Wang
I truly ADORE this look and am intrigued by Ariana's current connection to Vera Wang, this not being the first custom look she has received. The look consists of the most mature, feminine, glamorous, fitted cocktail dress - perhaps in velvet? - and a bustle skirt-train which is attached to the hips. This piece is magical and honestly a moment of Ariana that I won't easily forget, my only criticism is that the black fabric (especially the matte dress) is like a black hole, so you miss all of the magic going on, instead seeing a black mass of material.
11/15
Madelyn Cline in Givenchy
This to me is just another forgettable black dress. It is constructed from an almost 'Dolce and Gabbana' printed material - that you notice up close - and has gorgeous raindrop black crystals that cascade down the entire gown. I just wish that we would have chosen one thing and stuck to it as to me, these elements don't work together.
12/15
Jessica Biel in Stephane Rolland
This is beautiful, a floor-length, long-sleeved, collared, fitted gown with a sheer cape that attaches to the gown at the knees, creating the most stunning shape and presence to the entire look. No notes, except I hate the colour!
13/15
Maggie Rogers in archival Ralph Lauren
You really can't beat the timeless elegance of a Ralph Lauren piece, this one in particular with its frilly straps in chiffon and classic, not-too-tight, not-too-loose fit. I personally just don't think the colour is doing any favours to Maggie here, although that hair is almost completely making up for it.
14/15
Barry Keoghan in Amiri
I had so much hope for Barry going into this awards season, but it seems like he and his stylist have been set on giving the world amnesia - they don't want us to even remember his name by the Met Gala. Everything he has worn has just been blah, this is no different. The pants are bad, the jacket is fine but feels like a Chanel tweed replica.
15/15
Donatella Versace in Versace
Donatella looks good here. I am living for the shoes - I know they have ben and gone but I'm still vibing, leave me alone - and do love an all red look. I think that although this look is certainly well-constructed, it also has that black hole effect that many black gown had tonight, leaving me squinting to try and get a glimpse at the actual dress. I love the horizontal folds/pleats at the hips which create a bold shape and exaggerate both the hips and the waist. I am not loving the V shape designed into the bodice, but I'll look past that. The proportions are really great here, with that low waisted effect and extended torso, that just works when you add the chunky platform heel.
I honestly don't think our Middle Ground has ever looked so good. I could have easily put at least 3 or 4 onto the Best Dressed. Anyway, if you've stuck around until now, you obviously want to know which celebrities had the worst fashion moments on this carpet... Well, let's talk about it.
Worst Dressed
1/14
Kylie Minogue in Gucci
This is absolutely atrocious. After the hideous gown that Taylor Swift wore at the Golden Globes you would think that women would be avoiding Gucci on red carpets, but alas, here comes Kylie to hurt my eyes yet again. The green portion feels like it was slapped on as she stepped out onto the carpet, the lilac gown doesn't fit well, and I hate the shiny look it has as well as the random paillettes found throughout.
2/14
Diane Kruger in Givenchy
This is an abomination. Not only is there far too much going on for me to even feel comfortable looking at it, but each individual element is just atrocious. The fringe beading - both thin and thick - looks like a cheap store-bought DIY crafts supply, the knee high dark stockings are trying to hide in shame but not doing a good enough job (also hideous), the cut and length of the actual mini dress is horrible on Diane and is made up of uneven, flimsy looking embroidered hexagonal shapes. Don't even get me started on the black band around the bust and arms; asymmetrical, confused, out of place. The lining of the dress - which is clearly meant to be a skin-tone match is so far off it hurts. Burn this please.
3/14
Charli XCX in Givenchy
Of all the sheer looks we could have found for Charli, even just from Givenchy, this is the worst by far. The draping isn't intriguing, in fact it seems to be unintentional certain places, only there due to bunching as a result of bad fit. The colour is awful on its own, but even worse on Charli's complexion. The neckline isn't flattering and the seams at the shoulders just leave me upset.
4/14
Serena Williams in Off-White
This was honestly the best look from an appalling collection - check it out in my recent Paris Fashion Week wrap up - which is kind of like being the tallest dwarf. I do quite like the fringe beading with some interesting references and ties to African heritage but I just like how the dress looks. The entire garment is scrunching up around the torso and hips - which I think actually intentional here - and, both the gloves and tubing of the neck-line look terribly made.
5/14
Pamela Anderson in Oscar De La Renta
I feel like this dress is one of those that I just don't quite understand - the vision is there, I just can't see it yet - so please feel free to educate me on what is going on here. At the moment, to me this is just a mismatch array of pale colours, with some slightly random floral designs thrown in, on a kaftan that isn't doing anything interesting in terms of shape or silhouette. Honestly, I am seeing the infamous Tiffany lamp and all I'll say is: some antiques belong in the attic.
6/14
Jennifer Coolidge in Dolce and Gabbana
If I just look at the very bottom of this dress, it looks like it could work - a fitted black dress layered with a black slip on in a weave or netting situation - but as soon as you look at the entire vision, you see a terribly fitted black dress layered with what can only be described as black fruit-bag netting. Executed more intentionally this could have looked fabulous, Berghain on the exposed skin covered by netting and an almost exotic animal skin effect on the main dress, but the actual result here is disastrous.
7/14
Salma Hayek in Gucci
Have we learnt nothing ladies? So many beautiful women came before us and attempted this look to some extent, not one of them managed to pull it off. This could very easily have been found on a Shein sale section, which is ironic because it truly just belongs in landfill. The cheap shiny fabric, the awful fit, the terribly crafted asymmetrical neckline, the wasted, forgotten fabric on the floor... Must I go on?
8/14
Chloe Bailey in Robert Wun
This dress is completely body conscious, clinging to every part of the body almost like a jumpsuit, which I think can look fabulous, I personally just don't enjoy this rusty, metallic, latex-y material because it reads so cheap and uncomfortable. Also, the incredibly dramatic ruffles really don't work for me, I think they are positioned weirdly and don't benefit the silhouette of the look at all.
9/14
Melissa McCarthy in Valdrin Sahiti
I am partially obsessed with that cannoli clutch but beyond that I am offended, personally. We have a full leather look with sleeves AND gloves, none of which fits even remotely well. The neckline is not working with the structured shoulder, the lions head and ring on the chest is essentially a door-knocker but lacks the fine and accurate detail of Schiaparelli hardware that takes it from tacky and gimick-y to fantastical.
10/14
Joan Smalls in Balenciaga
I have an issue with the current trend of crinkled couture so this is just grinding my gears the wrong way. The fabric seems to be draped ever so slightly, but to the point where you can't tell if it's a stylistic choice or if the gown is just scrunched and wrinkled as well as terribly creased. We also seem to have some completely unprovoked stitching just scratched across the bust, down the torso and then spreading all over the skirt of the gown. On top of this, we have layers and layers of folded fabric that seems to just be attached to the dress for no apparent reason. I am not enjoying the colour, nor the shoe, but thank god we have a glove.
11/14
Jennifer Lawrence in vintage Givenchy Haute Couture
This could be another look that grows on me. I'm actually not sure on this occasion what Givenchy collection this is from and I can't quite place it. I don't think an empire waistline is very flattering on many people, certainly not here - regardless of how stunning Jennifer is - and the low cut of the neckline really throws of the shape in my mind. I di like a floral pattern on a sheer fabric, and this colour is definitely lovely, but looking closer you notice that the fabric here is covered in little four leaf clovers (cute in principle) that just look tacky and out of place. I'm really not enjoying the bolero style cropped jacket as it just seems like more noise to me, as does the flat train that looks completely lifeless - granted we are talking about inanimate objects, but they should feel inspired or alive to some extent - so they whole look just underwhelms me.
12/14
Lindsay Lohan in Balenciaga
There has been a lot of Balenciaga tonight and I with this look I'm completely over it. It is a straight cut dress in silver that is entirely covered in silver fringe, which - rather than looking like a 20s flapper girl in her shimmy dress - looks like the tinsel found at a sad office Christmas party. I do like that and the complete exposure of the chest and shoulders but that means nothing when the actual gown so bad.

Florence Pugh in Jean Paul Gaultier
I really wanted to like this - we were all rooting for you! How dare you? - but I do not see myself getting behind this look ever. I think being around Zendaya on the Dune 2 press tour *full breakdown coming next week* has rubbed off on Florence who is now clearly attempting to have her fashion moment, and you know what, I think she's getting there, just not tonight. I absolutely loved this look on the runway but something about this has gone terribly wrong here, perhaps it is a fit issue, I'm assuming Florence is a lot shorter than the model who wore the look originally so the proprtions and placement are completely off. The length of the skirt, the height of the waistline, the placement of the two solid white embroidered motifs, everything is just slightly odd. I think the reason it worked on the runway, other than the perfect fit, was that you could see a clear distinction between the exact colour match of the sheer fabric to the model and the much brighter, lighter white parts. ofthe garment ,which made everything seem obvious and intentional. My favourite part of this look is those tiny little floating feathers coming off of the peplum skirt and the train.

Colman Domingo in Balmain
Our final guest on the worst dressed list tonight is a huge shock to me and I'm sure it is to you too. Maybe everyone else loved this look, along with everything else Colman has worn this season, but for me this look just didn't seem to hit the mark the way he has done at every other event. We have a sheer (in places) undershirt with a mock neck, which is almost fully covered by the statement piece of this look, a fully crystallised trench-style coat, complete with black lapels and pointed collar. Oh, and there's a face on the jacket. I wish he has closed the jacket and worn it as it's own piece, maybe then I would have enjoyed it - even just ironically - but unfortunately for me, the coat clashes horribly with the look underneath and because you don't see the complete picture on the coat itself, you lose the entire vision and it's just an ugly coat.
Damn. We managed to get through 55 looks today, that's a record. Of all of them, which were your Top 3 and Worst 3? Let me know in the comments or via socials. Mine were really easy to choose tonight:
Top 3
Worst 3
